How to Find Talented Employees? Expectation vs Reality?

Getting the right person to do that job is a challenge that most businesses face.

A lot keep complaining about how difficult it is to get the Right Talent and get them in your budget

Most businesses who approach us have this as their major concern. Not getting the Right Talent, Talent not adapting the Organization’s Value system, Talent becoming complacent, Spoiling others and creating toxic work culture, not growing and not helping the organization to grow…the list is long but the root to all these problems is ONE

Let me use an example to elaborate further

Every great business that we build, starts small. It is like a tiny seed that grows into a huge tree serving and helping so many others.

The seed gets transformed into a Tree.

A winning Talent in any organization also goes through a similar process. You don’t plant Talent, you build n grow Talent. It is not just about the quality of seed that you sow but there are a lot of other factors within your organization that help builds great Talents.

Not every tree is planted, some of them grow out of a tiny seed.

While sowing a seed, what precautions do we take?

Yes, it begins with a good quality seed but that’s not enough. We also need fertile land, favorable climatic conditions, constant nurturing, and strong protection. The same principle applies to our Talent too.

Do not look for a ready Talent as it will come at a cost that might not be affordable. Even if you manage the cost there is no guarantee that the Talent will stay as it might belong to a different work environment. If it stays, it will not deliver a positive impact rather will create a negative environment. That is why we say, look for a cultural fit; skills for talent can be developed.

Here are the key steps in building Talent.

SEED – Look for that raw talent that can grow in your organization’s culture, one that adapts well to the culture. It’s like planting the right seed; one that adjusts well with the present climatic conditions and the soil.

NURTURE – Sowing a seed is just a step towards a healthy tree. We need to provide nutrients in, timely. We need to create an atmosphere that encourages development/transformation.

The journey from a raw talent to a transformed one is yours too. Handhold the talent, provide opportunities, give them the space to work, allow them to make mistakes, and make sure they learn from their mistakes.

Like a seed that needs Minerals, Oxygen, water to grow your talent needs TRUST, SUPPORT & OPPORTUNITIES

Does it make sense?

Seeing a healthy tree giving food and shelter to others is certainly a treat to watch. Having a talented bunch of folks fighting it out for your business is certainly a dream for everyone and expecting a prepared talent is a mistake.

Your business already has enough challenges to fight; do not complicate it by making the wrong choices while selecting people/talent.
